Some Patients May Be Spared An Unnecessary Procedure By New Test For ...

Only then can the surgeon implant the new prosthesis.

The problem with this approach is that confirming the presence of infection-causing bacteria is an inexact science. Currently, doctors check for infection by culturing a sample of the joint fluid. A positive culture confirms live bacteria, making spacer surgery a certainty. A negative culture, however, does not necessarily mean there is no infection. In fact, Tuan says that estimates of the false negative rate for joint cultures in revision surgeries range from 27 percent to 50 percent. But because failure to treat an infected joint could lead to severe infection and limb amputation, spacer surgery is sometimes performed for safety's sake even when infection test results are inconclusive.

To get around the false-negative problem, Tuan and his colleagues developed a way to test for joint infections using polymerase chain reaction (PCR), which detects the presence of bacterial DNA.

All eyes on Opposition Liberals as Tuesday's budget approaches

Unfortunately, the GST was the wrong tax to cut, but since it was a splashy election promise they had to do it. Cutting corporate taxes benefits Canadians by helping to keep jobs and investment in Canada, but I think they were cut a bit too fast.

I would be very surprised if the liberals brought down the government because of this budget. There will likely be little if anything in it to cause a ruckus with the voters, and Stephane Dion really has very little traction with the voters. I'm guessing that the Liberals simply abstain...again.

In general the Conservatives have done a decent job with the economy, although I strongly disagree with some of the program cuts they have done so that they could cut taxes more or pander to their more rural base and give tax credits instead of funding things badly needed in cities like daycare.

'Indiana Jones' whips up Cannes premiere

If you're just dying to see "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" before its worldwide premiere, you may need to take a trip to the South of France.

George Lucas, Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford's long-awaited return to the "Indiana Jones" franchise will have its world premiere on Sunday, May 18 at the Cannes Film Festival.

If you don't want to play the money to fly to Cannes -- and, let's face it, you probably couldn't have gotten tickets anyway -- "Indy 4" will open around the world on May 22.

While Variety is reporting that the "Indiana Jones" premiere is essentially a done-deal, the trade paper takes great pains to note that nothing will be official until Cannes organizers announce the full festival slate in August. Spielberg is still editing and scoring the film -- which would presumably screen in an out-of-competition capacity -- and has yet to show even a rough cut to anybody.

Memories Of Johnny Weaver And Saturday Afternoons

“Turn out the lights, the party's over, they say that all good things must end…" — Willie Nelson

Whenever I think about Mid-Atlantic Wrestling and Jim Crockett Promotions, my mind invariably takes me back to the days when County Hall was the place to be on Friday nights and the black-and-white Saturday afternoon wrestling show emanated from a small TV studio in Raleigh.

From Charleston to Norfolk and all points in between, it was a territory that thrived on unique characters who could make people believe and have them coming back each week for more. Many of those names from that bygone era are gone now, leaving behind memories that will last a lifetime for those who were lucky enough to be around that special time.

No name was bigger, and no wrestler was more beloved, than Johnny Weaver.

Shares in Scania fell by 6.3 percent to 129.25 kronor. Ericsson's long-suffering shareholders saw the company's stock drop to its lowest point since December 2003. Shares in Ericsson lost 3.1 percent of their value and are now worth just 12.56, a 17.2 percent drop since the beginning of the year.

Tulip teams up again with SUPERSTAR director

Whatever may have been the fate of SUPERSTAR, it hasn't deterred its director Rohit Jugraj and leading lady Tulip Joshi to team up again. The actress has been signed by the filmmaker for one of his next projects, which would be rolling soon.

"I thoroughly enjoyed working with Rohit and there is no reason why I should not be working with him again. The man knows how to get the right styling in place and has a great sense of screenplay. He presented me quite well in SUPERSTAR and I am glad that I worked with him", says Tulip.

"Even before SUPERSTAR started, I was told by people that he had JAMES behind him. My question was - 'So what?' Each of us have hits and flops but that doesn't mean that we don't know our craft or what we are talking. I am sure Rohit would bounce back with his next film", signs off Tulip confidently.

Ms. Price I have greatly enjoyed reading your comments from this and other blogs and articles. Your excellent writing is to-the-point, and your education and experience is evident by the wise insight you bring. I especially love the kindness that shines through every word.

Ms. Price, if I was a single man, and this was a different world... I would be but a fool in love.

I meant no harm or insult to Mr.
